Arlington Community Volunteer Fire Department was organized and chartered on May 5th 1958 through the efforts of many concerned citizens from the Arlington community. The first Board of Directors met on May 6th 1958 at the Arlington Community Center. The Department started with 30 members and a 1958 Howe Pumper of which was retired in 1994 The original location of the fire department was at the Arlington Community Center until 1968 when it was moved to its present location at 321 South Main Street. Lester Haynes was the first Fire Chief and was followed by Albert Tilley, Alvin Pat Patterson, Ranny Smith, Gayle Burch, Walter M. Burch, Ronald O. Ball, Scotty D. Calloway and the Present Chief Kevin L. Macemore.

 

In 1975 Arlington was the first department to establish a Fire Protection Tax District. The present coverage district covers the Town of Jonesville and areas outside of the Town. In 1980 Arlington was the first department to provide First Responder Services to the community. On March 4, 1992 the Arlington Community Volunteer Fire Department Inc. amended its charter to Arlington Fire & Rescue Inc. In the mid 1990's Arlington Fire and Rescue was the first department to offer an Advanced Level of care by way of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED). At this time they also went online with Amkus Rescue Tools, High Level, and Water Rescue Equipment.

 

In late 2003 early 2004 Arlington Fire & Rescue Inc. relocated there equipment and apparatus to a temporary facility and removed and re-constructed a new and modern facility at its current location on South Main Street in Jonesville, In July of 2010 Ronda Fire Department and Wilkes County Annexed our Wilkes County Portion of the district, leaving us with providing service to only Yadkin County. In December 2011 Arlington Fire & Rescue placed a paid part time firefighter on duty during peak daytime hours. On January 1st 2012 Arlington Fire and Rescue entered into a contract to provide fire protection for the Town of Jonesville.

 

Our Department is ISO Class 5/9e. Anyone that is within 1000' of a fire hydrant can benefit from the insurance breaks that are provided by your insurance company. If you have any questions about qualifications for the insurance reductions contact your insurance provider.

 

At present the department is staffed with 39 volunteer firefighters. Members hold various certifications as: Firefighter Level I, Level II,  Fire Officer I and Fire Officer II, Fire Instructor I and II, along with Medical Instructor I and II, Hazardous Materials Awareness, Hazardous Materials Responder Level I, Medical Responder, Emergency Medical Technician, Emergency Medical Technician Advanced Scope, Wild land Fire Suppression, Wild land Fire Suppression in the Urban Interface, National Incident Management System. Our Chief has also completed the Fire Chief 101 class as required by the State of North Carolina.
